Donald Nelson, CPA is a co-founder and a Managing Director of Harken Capital Advisers, an institutional division of Compass Securities. He focuses on raising capital commitments from institutional investors on behalf of buyout and venture capital funds. Previously, he founded NelCap Advisers and he spent nearly a decade with SV Life Sciences (formerly known as Schroder Ventures Life Sciences), initially as a CFO and deal doer and then as Head of Fundraising and Fund Strategy. Donald was responsible for raising SV Life Sciences Funds III and IV, which constituted nearly $1 billion of the $1.4 billion of private capital under management by SV Life Sciences.

Earlier in Donald's career he was with Ernst & Young LLP where his role included providing services to entrepreneurial, venture capital and LBO funded enterprises. Initially in his professional career Donald was a successful founder/entrepreneur in the hospitality industry.

Donald graduated with an MBA from the Carroll Graduate School of Management at Boston College, and is a Certified Public Accountant. He did his undergraduate studies at The United States Naval Academy and The American University (Bachelor of Science, Finance).
